Seven Weight Loss Tips for Seven Days
57The best weight-loss tips are not always about food
In this Hub you will find seven weight loss tips for seven days. Rather than the usual “eat this, don’t eat that” type of advice, these are subtler tips to lose weight which, in my experience give more lasting results.
Weight loss tip n. 1: don’t accumulate
Gaining too much weight is only one of the aspects of a more general disposition towards accumulating stuff. Take a look around your house: how many objects, magazines, notes are piling up in the corners? Look at your wardrobe: how many clothes and accessories have you collected over the years? And finally, think about your day: how many thoughts are piling up about what you have to do tomorrow or in five minutes? You simply can’t expect to be able to carry everything with you, or do everything at the same time. Do one ting at the time. Throw away one thing at the time. You pounds in excess will be just one more thing to get rid of.
Weight loss tip n. 3: rise against your pedantic side
Try and listen to yourself when you talk to your partner, or friends, sons, colleagues. Do you tend to have a patronizing tone? Do you repeat things hoping they will be done properly, i.e. your way? Being fussy will generate stagnation, at all levels: thoughts, emotions, and…liquids, which are the symbolic and psychosomatic counterpart. Stop living a character that doesn’t belong to you, and you will be lighter, inside and out.
Weight-loss tip n. 2: listen to Nature
The Ancient used to say that Nature is full of gods, who give help, advice and awakening. If you are facing a hard choice, stop talking about it with everyone, or nibbling here and there to find inspiration. Now that spring is coming, take advantage of the nice temperature instead. Go to a calm place, amidst nature, that’s where you will find all the motivation, you just have to listen. It can be a bevy of birds, a lizard or a tree. When you come back home you will see things differently, with less calories.
Weight loss tip n. 5: tell yourself what happened... in the future
If a problem is tormenting you, take a piece of paper and tell whatever is happening to you. The trick here is doing it in third person, and using the past tense, as if the event were already done and dusted. Start with “once upon a time…” , use classic fairytale characters adapting them to the real context: the wizard, the knight, the princess, the talisman. This will help you get the right detachment from the problem, and you will stop using food as a solution.
Weight-loss tip n. 6: you’re not omnipotent
The feeling of being powerless is hard to control. The idea of not being able to do anything to change a situation is just another excuse we may have to use food as a solution. If you find yourself in such a situation, try to repeat to yourself: “There is nothing I can do about it.” You will realize that, the more you say it, the more your anxiety will turn into acceptance. Admitting our powerlessness helps us relying on our inner wisdom, which knows better, in spite of us.
Weight-loss tip n. 4: fight fake hunger, by all means necessary
When you are under attack of emotional and nervous hunger, don’t surrender, just to feel guilty and defeated afterwards. Stop and sit down instead, calm down your breath and go with your mind to an ideal place. It can be any type of place: a tropical beach, your partner’s company, or a dinner with your friends. Don’t be afraid to define all the little details, like perfumes, feelings. This will help you feel better and forget about food as a solution to your emotional state. How to lose weight quickly can easily start from here.
Weight loss tip n. 7: I looked like a fool, so what?
For many of us, one of the most intolerable situations is giving a bad impression, or failing in front of everyone. And our solution in this case is… food. If this happened to you too, just think that the day after, in one week or one year, nobody will remember what you did. You would be amazed to find out how ephemeral memory span can be. In this way you will stop brooding over what happened and you’ll have less chances to use food as a consolation.
