Liposuction Recovery Tips

By

If you are thinking of getting a liposuction, and if what makes you hesitate is the post liposuction recovery period, in this article you will find a few facts and tips.

The fat is gone, now what?

What happens immediately after a lipo surgery? How does recovery from liposuction work? Immediately after the incisions are sewed, medic and paramedic staff will apply a slightly compressing bandage around the treated zone. It is important that the bandage is not too tight, because tissues have undergone considerable stress and a too heavy compression may worsen the swelling.

Why do tissues swell after the operation? Liposuction recovery swelling and the edema will normally last up to a few days after the operation. Local swelling is due to liquids stagnation in the tissues. Part of those liquids are those injected before the operation. The body will naturally expel these liquids in the following days.
However, the most part of the edema beneath the skin is caused by the stress that the small blood and lymphatic vessels underwent during the operation. The purpose of the compressing bandage is to help the absorption of the edema.

How do patients go back to normality?

Liposuction recovery period goes through different phases. If what you had is a vaser liposuction, the recovery will be faster, but in all other cases, depending on the quantity of fat to remove, hospitalization will last from 24 hours to a couple of days.
The 48 hours after the operation the patient will have to rest.
From the third day, the patient will be able to resume a normal life, avoiding too tiring activities, saunas and steam rooms
After two-three weeks the swelling and the edema in the treated zone will have almost completely disappeared.
At this point sporting activities can also be resumed.
Recovery after liposuction will be complete about three months after the operation. Results on the body will not be immediate. In fact, immediately after the operation the patient will even gain a little weight and size. About on the fifteenth day of recovery, the improvements will start, and will continue for the following 2-3 months. Sometimes improvements can be noticed up to six months after the operation.
