Calvin Klein Perfume Review: Eternity Aqua For Men
81This fragrance is from the beginning of 2010, and it was launched as a variation of the classic Calvin Klein perfume Eternity for Men from 1989, together with CK one of the best sellers of the perfume designer. I tried it on paper, and diligently took notes, here is the result.
As the name suggests, this is a water-based fragrance, and indeed it has more defined identity than the previous summer versions of Eternity, which tended to be very similar to the original, just less intense.
The bottle and the top are the same as in the original, with blue transparent glass that reinforces the idea of water.
The Notes
The official notes for this Eternity Aqua are: cucumbers, citrus, lotus flower, green leaves, Sichuan pepper (which in spite of its name, has nothing to do with pepper it’s the pod of a fruit and has a lemon flavour), mirabelle plums, lavender, white cadar, sandalwood, guaiac wood, patchouli and musk.
The opening notes are quite fresh, with a core of water, with a green dry note, given by the cucumber, and green melon, plus very light spices. The aroma of water is given by calone, a synthetic ingredient widely used in perfumery.
In the middle phase, after fifteen minutes, the fragrance starts to evolve towards lavender mixed with spices, with less cucumber and calone and more generic green notes, although not highly aromatic like basil. Like in the beginning, there is still a dry layer, given by the lotus flower. After about one hour, calone is more intense, bringing back the water aroma, with also traces of fruity notes like similar to Polo Blue, but with an extra note of lotus.
After two and a half hours the spicy side of the water aroma is more intense again, with notes of ginger (or very close to it), and a more subtle calone. The fruity notes are more neutral, giving an idea of peaches and orange zest. After about 4 hours, part of the calone with fruit reminds of Nautica Voyage, but with a softer trail more intense spicy side. The final notes keep the same line of calone, perhaps a little less intense, with a mix of soft watery fruits. The floral side is still present, in the background, and also a dry note of sandalwood.
Where, How and When To Use this Eternity perfume
Although some lines of notes of this Eternity perfume remind of other perfumes like Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren, for the cucumber, or Nautica Voyage for lotus flower and the large use of calone, or like a classic American cologne for the presence of lavender and ginger, the fragrance still smells new for those who are not very familiar with all these possible example.
The intensity and the trail of this Eternity for men are ideal for a daily use in hot summer days. In the office it gives a clean image, and it’s fresh and elegant enough to get out of the shower at the gym and go straight to a semi-informal social occasion. For a night use, it’s a very light perfume, probably a little vulnerable to the other smells in the environment or to other, more intense and more aggressive perfumes. For this reason, it’s more suitable for an after-work drink than for a proper night out. On the romantic side this Calvin Klein cologne is maybe too linear. Although many women like the fresh-water style, it lacks of specific notes that generate curiosity, addiction or desire to come closer.
The age range would be for men between 20 and 50
