Beyond Angel Perfume: Other Fragrances by Thierry Mugler
73Which one is more famous?
The perfume or the designer? If you are a perfume lover, probably both. But for the rest of the people here is a question: who designed Angel perfume? (answer: Thierry Mugler). Do you know other fragrances by Thierry Mugler other than Angel perfume? I bet that even perfume lovers need to stop to think for a second. This article is an overview of the other Thierry Mugler's perfumes, those different from, or not based on Angel perfume. Next time you will answer without hesitation.
Fargrances for women
Alien
What if she's not an Angel, but she's still not from this world? An Alien of course. It was created by perfumers Dominique Ropion and Laurent Bruyerè and launched in 2005. It was the first Mugler's fragrance which did not pay a tribute to Angel perfume.
Another planet, but same intensity and same long duration (even more than 24 hours depending on the skin). The lily of the opening notes is reassuring and you may wonder if this really is a Mugler's perfume. The woody and spicy heart notes are sharper but get milder after a while, and the final is sweet amber.
Innocent Secret
This perfume is a reinterpretation of Angel perfume's woman and was created exclusively for Victoria's secret. It's a subtle mixture of fruity fragrances. The top notes mix bergamot and mandarin, middle notes are passion fruit, berries and honey. The final is all sweetness, with amber, honeyed almonds and meringue.
Eau de Star
With this perfume, launched in 2007, Mugler finally gives a tribute to the recurring image of his perfume: the star.
Again, the opening notes remind us of the first Angel perfume, mixing freshness and sweetness. The opening notes are chocolate, but cocoa seeds, rather than a chocolate bar. They soon incorporate floral notes, and evolve into something spicy. In the middle notes the flowers disappear and there's pachouli with a hint of vanilla. In the final notes, there are no more flowers and the sweet notes have evolved into something new, that puts together chocolate and tropical fruits.
Unlike Angel perfume, not suitable for the office, this fragrance can be worn in any occasion, any season, any part of the day.
Mugler Cologne (unisex)
This cologne is soap you can spray. One of the stories surrounding this perfume is that Mugler took inspiration from a soap formula from the middle ages. It contains the typical ingredients used by soap makers, like lemon, orange, moss, plus a secret synthetic ingredient called "S molecole." The result is a perfume that is not so obvious like a classic cologne on the one hand, but not a handmade aromatherapy concoction either on the other. The final notes are green and woody, still very very light.
It is officially a unisex fragrance, even though the citrus notes would make it a bit more masculine. Unlike Angel perfume, it is a summer fragrance, ideal for the office too.
And the one for men: Ice*Men
The name of fragrance from 2007 follows the same pattern as the previous, with an asterisque (actually a small star) in the middle. Tha name says it all, it's a refreshing, almost freezing, fragrance with caffeine notes. It was inspired by Angel perfume for men, but with a more controlled density.
The spicy and woody opening notes are very similar to Angel's, but fresher and less loaded. They become more evident in the middle notes, developing into clove (whole clove, not grated) plus some cedar and maybe pachouli. In the end, the wood disappears, pachouli and clove take the stage.
